2.3L EcoBoost (Base Engine)
The 2.3L turbocharged four-cylinder is a solid performer. Motorcraft SP-520 plugs are the OEM specification. They're engineered for the EcoBoost's boost pressure and direct-injection combustion. Service interval is 60,000 miles.
3.0L EcoBoost V6 (ST and Platinum)
The twin-turbocharged 3.0L V6 in the Explorer ST and Platinum deserves premium plugs. Motorcraft OEM spec plugs are the right choice here. The high-output, boosted engine needs plugs that handle elevated cylinder pressures consistently.
Pre-EcoBoost Explorers (3.5L V6)
Older Explorers with the 3.5L Duratec or Cyclone V6 use NGK Iridium IX or Motorcraft equivalent plugs. Service interval is 60,000 miles with iridium.
