What's the difference between copper, platinum, and iridium spark plugs?
Copper: Best conductivity, lowest cost, shortest lifespan (~20,000–30,000 miles). Good for older vehicles or high-performance builds with frequent tune-ups.
Platinum: Harder electrode, lasts ~60,000 miles. Standard upgrade for most modern vehicles.
Iridium: Hardest material, finest electrode tip, best ignitability, longest life (~80,000–100,000+ miles). Best choice for most modern engines.
Can I use aftermarket spark plugs instead of OEM?
Yes — in most cases, quality aftermarket plugs from NGK, Champion, ACDelco, or Autolite perform equal to or better than OEM. These brands supply original equipment to major automakers. Always match the heat range and electrode type recommended for your engine.
How often should I change my spark plugs?
Copper plugs: every 20,000–30,000 miles. Platinum plugs: every 60,000 miles. Iridium plugs: every 80,000–100,000 miles. Check your owner's manual for your vehicle's specific interval. Symptoms of worn plugs include rough idle, misfires, reduced fuel economy, and hard starting.
