The Ram 1500 is a capable, comfortable full-size truck that comes with a range of engines. Whether you drive the 3.6L Pentastar V6, the 5.7L HEMI, or the 3.0L EcoDiesel, your ignition system needs attention at regular intervals.
3.6L Pentastar V6
The Pentastar is a reliable engine that responds well to NGK Iridium IX or Champion Iridium plugs. The 3.6L is shared across many Chrysler/FCA products and has well-documented plug preferences. Service interval: 60,000 miles with iridium.
5.7L HEMI V8
The HEMI uses 16 plugs (two per cylinder). Champion Iridium plugs are a popular choice, as Champion is an OEM supplier for many HEMI-equipped vehicles. NGK Iridium IX is equally strong. Replace all 16 at once — doing half now and half later is false economy.
3.0L EcoDiesel V6
The EcoDiesel doesn't use spark plugs — it uses glow plugs. These are a separate maintenance item typically serviced every 60,000–100,000 miles depending on condition.
Installation Tips for HEMI Owners
The rear plugs on the 5.7L HEMI can be challenging to access. Many owners use a swivel socket extension. Take your time, avoid cross-threading, and torque to spec — the HEMI's cylinder heads are aluminum.
