The Toyota 4Runner is one of the most dependable SUVs ever built, and a big part of that reliability is its bulletproof 4.0L V6 engine. Keeping the ignition system fresh helps the 4Runner perform on trail and on the highway.
4.0L 1GR-FE V6 (2003–Present)
The 1GR-FE is an excellent engine that NGK supplies OEM plugs for. NGK Laser Iridium plugs (DILZKR7A11G or DILKAR7A11) are the correct fit for most 4Runner V6 applications. They're pre-gapped and ready to install.
Older 4Runners (2.7L 4-cyl and 3.4L V6)
If you're maintaining an older 4Runner with the 3.4L 5VZ-FE engine, NGK Iridium IX plugs are a strong upgrade from the factory copper/platinum spec. The 3.4L responds well to fresh plugs at 60,000-mile intervals.
Off-Road Driving and Plug Health
If your 4Runner sees regular trail use with lots of low-speed idle time, check plug condition at 30,000–40,000 miles even with iridium plugs. Carbon buildup from low-RPM crawling can shorten iridium plug life in heavy off-road use.
