Best Spark Plugs for Toyota RAV4: The World's Best-Selling SUV
Share
The Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling SUV on the planet — and it uses some of the most refined and well-engineered engines Toyota has ever made. Here's what spark plugs work best in each RAV4 variant.
2.5L Dynamic Force (2019+ RAV4)
The latest 2.5L naturally aspirated engine in the current RAV4 uses NGK Laser Iridium plugs as OEM specification. Toyota's Dynamic Force engine runs an unusually high compression ratio (14:1), making plug quality and correct specification especially important. Service interval: 60,000 miles.
RAV4 Hybrid (2019+)
The RAV4 Hybrid uses the same 2.5L engine running in Atkinson cycle mode. NGK Laser Iridium OEM spec applies here as well, though the hybrid drivetrain means the engine runs in unusual patterns — it shuts off at stops, restarts frequently, and varies load dramatically. All the more reason to stick with OEM-quality iridium.
RAV4 Prime (Plug-In Hybrid)
The RAV4 Prime's engine runs less often than a standard hybrid due to its larger battery. However, when it does run, it must start reliably in all conditions. NGK Laser Iridium OEM spec plugs are the correct choice.
Older RAV4 (2.5L 2AR-FE)
The 2.5L 2AR-FE engine in 2006–2018 RAV4 models uses NGK Laser Iridium (ILKAR7L11) plugs as OEM spec. 60,000-mile service interval.
